Best Fabric for Canvas Tents

Going camping is an unforgettable experience for people of all ages. But it can also be a nightmare if we do not organize the trip well and especially if we do not use the best quality tent to avoid trouble.

Here are the basics for understanding the world of Canvas Tents also known as Glamping Tents, Safari Tents, Eco-tents, Outfitter Tents or Wall Tents.

Denver Tent Company: producing the best canvas tents!

Army Duck Canvas- Double Fill: This is the highest quality canvas currently produced.  Army duck canvas is a 100% woven cotton fabric.  Woven army duck canvas is a high thread count fabric.  This gives it a tight weave, making it naturally water repellent.  Single fill and double fill are both constructed with a flat weave, but the double fill is stronger because the warp and weft are made of plied (twisted) yarns. These fabrics are extremely dense and durable.  There are a few different weights of army duck fabrics.  The most common ones are 10.10 oz. army duck, and 12.63 oz. army duck. The higher weight has more yarn per square inch making it heavier and denser

The lengthwise warp yarns are held stationary in tension on a frame or loom while the transverse weft is drawn through and inserted over-and-under the warp.  Most army duck fabrics are made with 2 plied yarns twisted together in both the warp and fill direction. What’s important in army duck fabrics is the type of yarns used.  You could use plied yarns in a high thread count fabric, but if the quality of the yarn is poor, the fabric will fail.  All sun forger canvas fabrics we use are A grade ring spun yarns.
The Treatments for Canvas
Flame Resistance Treatment:  This is a chemical treatment that will give the canvas a safety property where the FR canvas will burn as long as there is a flame source present, but will not burn if the external flame is removed. Fire retardant does not prevent sparks from the smokestack from burning “pinholes” in the canvas.  This treatment cannot be applied to a regular canvas after buying, it will plug the spaces between the threads and the canvas will no longer ‘breathe’.  Our canvas meets CPAI 84 fire retardant code.  Many states require this; CA, LA, MA, MI, MN, NY, and NJ.fire 1209451 1920 - The Language of Denver Tent: Part 1
Mold/Mildew Treatment:  All of our canvas is Marine Grade Boat Shrunk Sunforger, which is a treatment to resist mold/mildew.
